Serving as the Somerset County Flight 93 Coordinator, and currently the Coordinator for the Flight 93 Memorial Task Force, Hankinson's duties included planning the six-month observance of the crash as well as the nationally significant first anniversary commemoration acknowledged by an historic Presidential visit. Hanksinson has been extensively involved with the Families of Flight 93, the National Park Service, the Task Force and Federal Advisory Commission in the overall planning process for the development of a permanent national memorial at the crash site. She was actively involved with Somerset County's "Legacy Groves" initiative supported by the USDA Forest Service Living Memorials Project.
